Bangkok - Khao San Road

So we checked into Bangkok and word on the street was Khao San road was the place to go. Obviously coming from Cambodia we were expecting a similar atmosphere to pub St.

During the day the road is more of a market place where you can find pretty much anything you need. It's full of flip flops, sunglasses, jewellery and all types of clothing at crazy prices!
Haggling is your first point of call!
Beardy lost his flip flops twice before reaching Bangkok so when it happened again we went on the hunt for a new pair.
After walking down one side of the road and then returning down the on the opposite, we finally found a pair which were
1. Beardy's foot size (size 10 is difficult to come by here)
2. Comfy (a comfy flip flop is a must when travelling)
And
3. They only cost £4 (after the beauty of haggling)

Behind all the market stalls there are a variety of bars and restaurants, so if your looking for cheap food and drink it's really easy to come across. Also if you want to go even cheaper, the food stands outside always have something cooking. Now we are talking cheap, 20thb for a plate of noodles, which is equivalent to around 38p!!
Word of warning though, we often check out Trip Advisor in regards to places to eat so we can read the reviews.
TMI moment coming up.
We have both been struck down with the dreaded 'Thai Tummy' since being here so by doing this you can avoid any unwanted toilet trouble!

Now walking down KSR you will have people shouting to you, grabbing you and trying to get you to buy a suit or get a tattoo.
However be strong minded, if you do want these services don't go following the first person who approaches you as you will be asked more than once.
Find the best deal, and the most recommended place, take your time and don't rush!

So on our first night in Bangkok we thought let's go and check out some bars and have a couple of beers. We found a chilled little bar upstairs that is located in the centre of the road which sold some cheap Chang.
We ended up getting a tower of beer which was a ridiculous amount for two people. We managed to have eight 3/4 pints of beer each out of this thing. Now before we get told off by the folks we were very sensible and drank it slowly, promise!
After conquering the tower of Chang we headed back down to the now buzzing street. Walking through the hustle and bustle we came across a really nice outdoor place where they had live music from various local artists. We took a seat on the curb and sang along to such classics as Sweet Child of Mine before returning home.

Having had experienced Khao San road, we were both a little over the going out and getting smashed scene, chilled and relaxed is more our thing, but If you want cheap alcohol and a pretty awesome party vibe which flows out onto the road in the early hours, then this is definitely the place for you.
Just remember guys, have fun, stick together and drink responsibly!

We came out here with the intention to get our noses pierced. Sounds odd but with all the chaos with packing up our home and trying to save as much as possible, attempting to get it done back in the UK just wasn't an option, also where we lived it was extremely pricy!!

When on KSR find the little cut through called Soi Sunset, it will take you to the next street! We walked down here to check out some shops as it's much quieter (blimey we sound old) but it was down here we came across a pretty awesome body piercing jewellery shop.
We popped in and asked whether they did piercings. Unfortunately they just sold the jewellery.
However the lovely lady referred us to a tattooist/piercer who was in the shop at the time. Having explained what we wanted and asking to see his shop we went round the corner to King Star Tattoo and he showed us around.
He explained what we wanted done in great detail, showed us the tools he'd use, the jewellery we could have and quoted us a fantastic price. We did the sensible thing and didn't jump straight in to get it done. We went back to our hotel, read up on all the reviews and haven spoken to him we were very happy with our choice.

Kings Star Tattoo were very hygienic, more so than what I remember back when I got my ears pierced in the UK. The atmosphere was calm and the staff were extremely friendly.
Having marked and measured us up we were ready to get pierced!
Getting comfy in the big leather chair, beardy first and me second we had it done!
The piercing was painless, the only slight discomfort was having the ring pushed through, other than that it was fine. We were also told if we wanted the jewellery changing he would happily do it for us when it had healed. The aftercare we were given was brilliant. We each got a bag which included:
Day cleaner
Night cleaner
Cotton buds
Instructions
And a business card for future contact.
We were also shown how to clean the piercing properly before leaving.

We would recommend anyone to get their piercing done here as we felt comfortable and it was painless. We can't give a recommendation on the tattoos as we haven't had this done but I would suggest if you were looking at getting one to check out this shop. Thanks again King Star Tattoos! We love our new nose rings!

Top Tip

▪️Be on the look out for the 'over friendly' guys who lurk here. They speak fantastic English and at first come across really kind and helpful, however that then turns into a con to swindle you out of money. They offer you all the tours and a day out in your own Tuk Tuk for a fantastic price, however the tickets they hand you are normally fake. Then to make matters worse the Tuk Tuk driver demands more money from you. Now this didn't happen to us as we were aware of people like this, but we did have an offer. We heard many stories from other travellers that this had happened to though. This classic saying fits so well, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

▪️Be wary of the dreaded 'ping pong' noise. If you are unaware of what we mean, let's just say it involves a lady, a ping pong ball and not much else. At first we found this hilarious, but after the 5th 6th time of being asked within the space of 2 minutes it does get a bit annoying. Especially as the promotors don't know of 'personal space' and don't see any harm in grabbing your arm or following you.

▪️Don't get a DRUNK Tattoo! 'Bangkok 2015' tattooed on your back doesn't look good the morning after!

▪️Drink sensibly, know your limits but all in all have FUN!
