Having spent a few days here we felt that we weren't seeing that many of the rural surrounding villages. As we only have a few days left in Siem Reap before we head to the capital, we found this brilliant quad bike company to take us on a tour.
Quad Adventure Cambodia
http://www.quad-adventure-cambodia.com
Cost
$100 for one roughly £67
$120 for two on the same quad roughly £80
Exchange rate for April 2015
We got picked up by this fantastic tour guide called Den. If you decide to go ask for him, we couldn't recommend him enough!
It's a 4 hour quad bike ride that takes you all over the place.
Most of the footage we took was on our GoPro Hero 4, but as our internet isn't great here we can't upload our Vlog just yet.
Top Tips
▪️Take lots of water. You don't realise how hot it gets whilst you are driving around with a lovely cool breeze, but trust us, when you stop it hits you like a full on body slam.
▪️Leave all your fear at the hotel! The roads here are a little nutty. There is no system what so ever.
If they want to cut you off, they will.
If they fancy going on your side of the road, they will.
If a cow decides to take a wander down the road, it will.
It's a mixture of horns and moped engines, yet somehow it works. Go with the flow and stay alert, you'll be fine. By the end it will feel like second nature!
▪️Prepare to get dirty! All the dust, mud and water you travel through goes everywhere. Suze went out a blonde and came back a ginger due to all the dust in her hair. But it's so much fun it's well worth getting a little grubby. Sunglasses, mask (they provide), baggy trousers and a vest worked a treat for us.
▪️Take some cash! You visits locals on the way, and you never know when you might need some more water!
We ran out of both!! Luckily for us Den was a legend and bought us some water out of his own pocket, along with some sugarcane juice. Wait until you see the VLOG, it's interesting looking stuff but it's so tasty!
▪️Always ask to take pictures when going into a temple. We have found that they respect the fact that you ask to use your camera. Never assume it's ok and start snapping away. Most of the time it will be a yes, then always say thank you with a big smile. Respect and gratitude is very important here. Also on entering a temple you should be bare footed, no hats and cover up as much as possible.
▪️Warning to all you curvy people out there, if you choose to sit on the back of one of these bikes you may get bruised! Suze found out the hard way...ouch!
Here are a few pictures we took on route with the Samsungnx3000, vlog soon to follow.
